One of the more popular jobs at Stretch are Pub Surveys. This is where we travel to a pub and look at it in context to see if it is viable. We look at the competition. We talk to the locals. We assess the area. We visit the pub (if it’s open) and sample the food, drink and service. We do the same in the competition establishments (e.g. pubs, restaurants, cafes etc.). Then we write a comprehensive report looking at all aspects and we can eventually draw up some recommendations. The pub chain will take our report into account when deciding whether (or not) to invest in the pub in the future. It’s a lot of responsibility – so we take it seriously. But it’s also fun. We see other parts of the country. We get to meet people in those areas – and many of them have strong views of their local – and we get to sample some nice (usually) food and drink.
